Summer Leadership Camp: Enabling Teenagers to Develop Transformative Leadership Skills

LEAD the Way (LTW) is a one-week physical leadership development programme designed to inspire, empower and equip teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 to understand and achieve their full leadership potential.

The Teenager would take part in leadership and life skill trainings, career pathway workshops and listen to established facilitators and trainers that will take them through a journey of self-awareness; encourage them to lead ethically, and support them to make purposeful and meaningful career transitions.

LEAD the Way (LTW) is LEAP Africa’s leadership development programme designed to inspire, empower and equip a new generation of young transformative and ethical leaders between the ages of 13-17 to discover and achieve their full leadership potential.

The LEAD The Way curriculum is modelled after international best practices and emerging lessons from reports on youth development across Africa.

The Self-Mastery course contains 5 modules that will span for a period of 4 weeks.

Inspire, Empower and Equip

Generation of young transformative and ethical leaders between the ages of 13-17.

Different Resource Types

The course contains different resource types including text, videos, games and podcasts.

Unplug Projects

Several tools, activity templates and reference materials have been carefully curated to guide you on your journey to self-mastery.

Our Courses

Learners Values and Ethics

Learners will learn the importance of core values, and integrity as critical to other values. Learners will be encouraged to evaluate their value systems, explore and identify their personal core values, and discuss how to translate their values into action.

Vision and Goal Setting

A strong sense of vision and mission is the basis of transformative leadership. This session entails a discourse on the value of visions and missions in leadership using examples of persons with clear visions and missions.

The Act and Art of Leadership

Learners will be introduced to the concept of leadership and will reflect on their perceptions and definitions of leadership. In addition, they will be introduced to LEAP Africa's principles of leadership and leadership development.

Self Leadership

The various dimensions of self-leadership including time management, communication skills, emotional intelligence, goal setting, etiquette, personal grooming and continuous learning, are covered in this session.

Good day everyone, my name is Aisha Shafau and I am participant of the Lead the Way program. I feel like this program’s activities will have the most impact on my life in the coming years; with modules on Self identity, leadership and ethics and moral values, I feel like I have truly learnt something valuable. In the past I have found it hard to find out how to make a path toward my future and even identify who I really am, but now I understand myself completely. I am proud to say that I have even made goals and visions towards what I want to be. The most impactful part was the community change project. As a person who regularly gives to charity I was very happy to be able to talk to children and parents about school and give out school materials. It was very insightful to me and I learnt many lessons that day. I would just like to say that I greatly enjoyed this program and I am so happy that I have actually gained from it, thank you very much for this opportunity

The Lead the Way program provided me with a confidence booster and a unique learning experience. The course was extremely funny and informative and gave rise to various pair discussions.

The LEAP Africa Program has helped me to discover a lot about myself and given me closure about the doubts I had about the Future. I will leave this program a more confident version of myself not letting anything I learned in this program go to waste, casting away the shell of my former self, this program also helped me realize that I need to work towards a leadership position and will not be born into it, working with people wasn’t always my strong suit because I always had problems talking to other people but the program helped me to be aware of my strength and my weaknesses so I can make a foundation on them also the ability to create a team of people that complement our strengths and weaknesses.

The LEAD THE WAY program helped me to discover who I and have more confidence in myself and take control of my life, during the course, I learned that being a leader is not determined by age or your state in life.
