Scaling Youth Day of Service Without Losing the Soul
The concept is proven. Whether it scales is no longer a question about young Africans, it is a question about us. And it is the only question this whole series was ever really asking.
Five years ago, in the middle of a world that had gone quiet, we lit something. We did not know what it would become. We were not trying to redesign development finance or reframe a continent’s story. We were trying to keep a generation from going out. Five years later, we know exactly what we lit: more than twenty thousand young leaders, over four thousand projects, thirty-seven countries, and upwards of six million people reached, on roughly a quarter of a million dollars. A spark became a movement. In Africa, the lockdown generation became a generation of builders. And the question that remains is not whether they can – they already did. The question is whether we will finally fund what they proved.
